Dion & Zennina’s wedding at the St George Hotel in Pretoria
Dion & Zennina got married at the St Athanasios Greek Orthodox church in Benoni.
Their reception was at the beautiful St George Hotel in Pretoria. I loved this wedding, Zennina’s zest for life, Dion the calm always courteous guy. And then of course, a typical Greek wedding, with lots and lots of friends and family and lots of Greek dancing breaking of plates. One we won’t easily forget.

I asked Zennina a couple of questions about their wedding:
How did we meet?
I was the lotto girl at an Engen garage. Dion use to play the lotto every Wednesday and Saturday , instead of winning the lotto he won the lotto girl.
The proposal…
We went to Cyprus to visit family for Christmas. Christmas passed and so did New Years. I had an idea he was going to propose , but as our family visit came to an end , our last day in Cyprus. He took me out onto the roof top of the apartments we were staying and asked me to be his wife. I said YES of course ? If I had to say NO , he said he would have thrown me over the side of the building! ( how romantic)
Describe our wedding day…
It really was the best day of my life! I know everybody uses the same line, but I really was! It was a real traditional Cypriot wedding with lots of fun and lots of braking plates.
The dress…
I did not choose my own dress. Instead I had my mother Loraine , mother-in-law Elpi and sister-in-law Toinne’ choose my wedding dress. It was the best decision I ever made! It was a gorgeous white lace fit and flair we found at Bride&Co. They chose a dress that showed me off , a dress that matched my personality! Thanks to them I looked elegant and like a bride.
The flowers.
I had the church and venue done by The Bloom Room. What an amazing job they did! So professional and helpful! They did exactly what I asked them to do. They did what other florists DIDNT WANT to do. I’m so happy I found them. The flowers where unforgettable !
Highlights of the wedding.
Everybody that travel from far away. It made our wedding day so much more special and meaningful to us.
Any Drama…. Oh YES! My bridesmaids brother ended up in ICU after slipping down the stairs and slamming face first into a giant pot plant! He ended up with a fracture under his eye! Thankfully after a couple of days he was out of hospital healthy and happy , getting married soon himself:)
The honeymoon.
Sad to say we didn’t have a honeymoon. We decided to buy a house first , and have the honeymoon later next year in Rome, France and Spain.
Our photographer.
We found JC Crafford online with loads and loads of good recommendations from other Newley weds. Very professional and friendly. They didn’t make anybody nervous , they made everyone relaxed. They defintely knew what to do and how to do it. I’m very happy we found them and let Them capture our special day.

Any advice for future bride and groom…
DONT HAVE ANY EXPECTATIONS !!!!! You know who you getting married to, don’t expect them to change after getting married. That’s who they are before marriage that’s who they will be after marriage ! Don’t expect a perfect wife and don’t expect perfect husband ( it adds unwanted pressure for nothing) Always respect each other. Always love each other! And don’t forget to communicate with one another! Don’t try and read minds! If something is bothering you, you need to be comfortable in telling your partner.
Over all inspiration for our wedding… I
have been to a few Greek events. They always have these classy,elegant and extravagant events. I pulled all my ideas from my previous greek experience. The Greeks really know how to party! Lively , energetic and wonderful people.
