Etienne and Cara’s wedding at Galagos

Galagos wedding photography in Pretoria by JC Crafford Photography

Galagos is a very special wedding venue, and Cara & Etienne are two VERY special people. They just care about other people more than most people I have met in my life. Cara first came to see me together with her dad when they were still deciding who to choose as their wedding photographer and videographer. I only met Etienne later on.

We did their pre wedding shoot at The Railway Yard in Pretoria, and although Cara was a bit nervous (we first had to drink a beer before we started) the camera clearly loved her. I then knew this was going to be an awesome wedding.

Etienne and his groomsmen were passing the time drinking a few beers and playing pool on the morning of the wedding while Cara and the ladies were busy with their make up and hair in galagos’s salon.

Etienne is a very emotional guy, and he just managed to hold back the tears when Cara walked in on the arm of her dad, BUT, the Cara decided to sing a song for Etienne in church, a beautiful Afrikaans rendition of “You raise me up” Not only Etienne, but most people in the church were crying.

The reception was a feast, a life band entertained the crowd. Etienne’s speech was always going to be a difficult, his friends were waiting for this moment, and Etienne knew it. He came prepared with a rain jacket. At one stage he actually had to run away from the crowd to be able to finish his speech.

Something that was very special for me was the parent’s wedding photos that was on display in the foyer…nice touch

We ended the evening with a night shoot.

Etienne and Cara, what can i say about you two? Thanks for people the very, very special people that you are, thanks for making our work so enjoyable on your wedding day, and thanks for the honour of choosing us as your wedding photographers and videographers.

I asked Cara a couple of questions about their wedding.

How did you meet?

Etienne and I met while we we’re both students at the University of the Free State. We met one day in the medical faculty’s cafeteria and then we met again later at my hostel’s annual dance.

Tell us about the proposal

Etienne proposed to me while we we’re on holiday in Sodwana. We went diving and on our last dive of the weekend he popped the question! He hid the ring in a coral, 20m under water.

Describe your wedding day, anything specific that you will always remember

I will always remember our romantic first dance. We had smoke machines, spotlights and golden glitter falling from the sky! A live band (Maracto together with the ladies from Con Grazia) played our favourite Lady Antebellum song, Golden.

The dress

There are no words to describe my beautiful Maggie Sottero wedding dress. It is a blush mermaid dress with venetian lace and a long veil..

The Flowers

We used king proteas and pink roses.

The Honeymoon

We went to the amazing Le Victoria hotel in Mauritius. We spent time on the beach and delicious food. It was truly paradise!
