Fujifilm X-T1 Wedding Photography

wpid-wp-1391178379486.jpeg

So,  exciting day tomorrow,  I’m doing my 200th wedding,  and I’m going to do it with the new Fujifilm X-T1 that was launched two days ago worldwide.  I’ve been using the camera for the last two days and I’m very excited to shoot the wedding with it tomorrow.  I’m going to leave my Canon’s in the car for the first time since I became a professional . This will be the first time in South Africa that an X-T1 is used exclusively to shoot a wedding… maybe a first in the world? Watch this blog,  I’ll have the photos up in the next 3 Days.

JC Crafford is a full time wedding photographer,  I stay in Pretoria in South Africa.

09:27. 01/02/2014. D-Day has arrived, my bags are packed and I’m ready to go. Here is a quick photo to show the difference in terms of what I’ll be carrying around today. On the right is my normal camera bag with two DSLR’s and my lenses in. On the left the bag I’ll be carrying around today. I fitted the following in there.

3 x Fujinon lenses

2 x Flashes

1 x Fujifilm X-T1

1 x Fujifilm X-E2

and my memory cards and extra batteries.

I’m looking forward to todays wedding and the mobility that Fujifilm are going to offer me.

Looking forward to your follow-up with great interest, as I’m planning to order the X-T1 …my first step in transition away from my bulky DSLR system.
I was wondering about your “2x flashes”? Off-camera manual flash setup or will you be using any of the Fuji TTL flashes?
Their flash system is one area I hope Fuji devotes some time to developing.

Hi Tim, thanks for your post, I’m going to do exactly that, as soon as the X-T1 is available I will sell my DSLR’s. I’ve used my two Canon flashes with my Phottix Strato. Must still investigate Fuji’s flashes, it’s actually on my to do list tonight!

Nice shots!!! I am kind of on the same track, migrating from Nikon to Fuji… How do you feel about the focus speed and accuracy of X-T1 with 55-200mm lens?

Thanks Joe, I’ve used the 55-200mm this weekend, and I liked it, but I really can’t wait for the 50-140 mm f2.8 that’s coming out later this year, that’s the BIG one…for me!

Hi JC,

thanks for sharing your experience with the X-T1. I’m about to buy my X-T1 end of next week and I’m still planing my set of lenses. What would you recommend for portrait and wedding?

Rgds

Joerg (from Germany)

Hi Joerg

I’ve ordered the 18mm, 23mm, 56mm and 55-200mm. Of course I will buy the 50-140mm 2.8 and 16-55mm 2.8 the moment that it’s released at the end of the year!

JC Could you please elaborate more on the flash toppic? I’m new to fuji and would love to know on exactly how you plan to use your flashes (I’m assuming you will be mobile with them (I might be wrong)) Manual remote flash running around a wedding? How does that work, you set the flash to whatever power and then what? Or will you have a fuji flashes with ttl? If So then how do they communicate with the camera (if i’m not mistaken they don’t have anything like the nikon cls or whatever canon calls its remote flash system. Thanks!
p.s. i’m getting the xt1, 23mm,56mm and the only thing I didn’t figure out are the flashes.

Hi Kris, i use a Phottix Strato to trigger the flashes when I’m on the shoot itself for off camera flash, my lighting assistant will then hold the flash and the umbrella and just turn it up or down depending how much light I require. I use my Canon flashes and a Youngnuo flash, i only use it in manual any case.
