Second week in January. My wife Surika, my little daughter Miya and I took the road to Bethlehem where Xavier and Andraea are going to get married at Lavender Hills the next day.
I always enjoy going there, not only is Lavender Hills one of the most beautiful places you can get married at. Their service and food is always top notch. We had a stunning supper in the German restaurant in Clarens the Friday afternoon Miya actually ate with a knife and spoon the first time in her life, that was something to see…LOL) , took a leisurely drive to the Golden Gate Park, and decided immediately we will stay here at Golden gate with the next wedding I’m photographing in Clarens in April.
On our way to Bethlehem the Friday I had to stop every couple of km to take photos. I mean, I AM a photographer. There was a BIG storm brewing. I took this photo just before it started raining.
But back to the wedding. Xavier and Andraea must be one of the most loving couples I have ever photographed. You could see that they waited a long time for this special day and that they were intent on enjoying it. They are a very photogenic couple, somehow they look could from any angle…and they do LOVE posing. Andraea is actually one of the VERY few brides that I have ever photographed that didn’t get more nervous the closer she got to the wedding, she started the day being very nervous…and then got more relaxed the closer she got to the ceremony…strange.
Have a look at the photo of the cute little flower girl in her walking ring. She actually started right at the back and made it to the front…I was impressed!

Xavier and I met in high school, he was the mischievous charmer who swept me off my feet. Afrikaans class was never the same! We dated for 7 years before he proposed, camped out under the stars (complete with candles and a romantic little setup) after a night tour of the johannesburg zoo.

Well done JC! Your photo’s are amazing. Going through the 1200 photos you took, I re-lived that very special day. You captured each moment whether it was laughter, happiness or tears. Not only was the background of the beautiful Lavender Hill displayed, but also the loving look in Xavier’s and Andraea’s eyes is clear for all to see and admire.
