A Beautiful Makiti Wedding
Darryl and Charmaine got married at Makiti near Krugersdorp. I had the honor of being their wedding photographer. I met them at a friend’s (Retha) wedding earlier this year where she was one of the bridesmaids. Retha returned the favour by flying down from Zambia where she lives to be one of Charmaine’s bridesmaids.
Wedding Venue – Makiti
I’ve been the wedding photographer at quite a number of weddings at Makiti and I still enjoy it every time I go there. They have big gardens, ponds, water features, a river … the ideal place where a bride and groom can be photographed by their wedding photographer. The food is always excellent and you won’t get better service anywhere. They are situated in the Cradle of Humankind, very close to Krugersdorp. If you still need a place to get married, why don’t you check them out. Visit their website at www.makiti.co.za.
Darryl and Charmaine’s Story
Charmaine and Retha (one of her bridesmaids) went to H2O and there were thousands of people there. A group of guys came over and started chatting to them and Darryl was one of them. They started dancing and were flirting with each other. Darryl then asked Charmaine if she wanted a drink. She said “Yes sure” and went over to Retha to tell her she’s going for a drink. When she turned around Darryl was gone. She couldn’t find him. She thought “Oh well” and continued dancing end enjoying the evening with Retha. Later the evening she saw him dancing on a stage. She went over to him and said: “Hey, you still owe me a drink” He said: “You disappeared on me.” She said: “No, you disappeared on me. ” He then bought her the drink and that’s where everything started.
They got engaged when they went away one weekend on a trip that Charmaine has won. On the last evening the lodge where they were staying took them out on a game drive to watch the stars. She saw a shooting star and quietly wish Darryl wants to ask her to marry him. When they went back to their room he asked her to marry him.
Have a look at the top right hand picture. I like this idea very much. They got somebody to make a drawing for them, and all the guests had to put their fingerprints on the canvas with paint that was supplied.
Charmaine and Retha taking a break before they’ve started with the make-up session.
Darryl got married at Makiti as well, so it was easy to pop over to his chalet to photograph him while the bride was still busy with her make-up.
The make-up artist busy with Charmaine’s make-up. They underestimated the time they needed to do everybody’s make-up, resulting in Charmaine being 55 minutes late.
These two are SO in love, Charmaine and Darryl only had eyes for each other while the minister was getting the register ready for the signing.
The start of the official wedding photography photo session. We had a pre-wedding photo shoot a couple of weeks before the wedding (which partially rained out) but I still think it helped a lot to have them be more relaxed in front of the camera.
I just love this old ox wagon at Makiti, it makes for the nicest wedding photos.

For any soon to be Bride out there I would like to say, JC Crafford is the best choice you can make. He has a real passion for what he does and it shows in the pictures. He looks at your venue and finds the stranges places to take photos’ but once you see the end result it’s amazing. You will not regret making him your final choice.
To Johan, Thank you once again. The pictures are wonderful, it’s so nice coming back from honeymoon and haveing those lovely memories captured forever.
Regards
Charmaine and Darryl
