It was a year and a half ago. I was shooting a wedding in Clarens and was staying over at a family member, Hantie, in Clarens. Ansie was visiting her the weekend. Ansie had been single for quite a number of years, and we had a long chat about marriage and partners over a glass of wine…or two. I remember how she explained to me what she wants in a husband, and I told her it was impossible to find somebody like that. I remember vividly that her last words about the marriage conversation was: ” One day I will find a husband like that, and I will call you to photograph my wedding.
About 8 months later Ansie called me, she had find her dream husband about a week after we had the conversation in Clarens, and he has asked her to marry him.
Naturally I was VERY sceptical to find out if this guy can have all the qualities that Ansie wanted. (it was quite a long and detailed list) But, I must admit, after having met Johann, that he was everything that Ansie said she wanted. A genuinely nice guy, caring, full of fun…and VERY much in love with Ansie. Johan was 58 when he married Ansie, and he has never been married before. Talk about waiting for the right woman. You could just see how the emotions flooded through Johann when Ansie walked down the isle on the arm of her dad! I must admit I had to wipe a tear away when I saw Johann’s face in my camera’s viewfinder when the wedding march started to play!
When I think about this two special people I remembered this quote:
In the end, it’s still best to wait for the one we want rather than settle for what is available. It is still best to wait for the one you love rather than settle for the one who is around. It’s still best to wait for the right person, because life is too short to waste on the wrong one.
Their photo shoot, in fact their whole wedding, was such a relaxed event. Friends and families celebrating two awesome people starting a life together. It was held at the beautiful Casa Mia just outside Cullinan.
If ever I photographed two people that were meant for each other it was these two, you could just sense that they are going to go everywhere together and experience a lot of new things as a couple.
Thanks for making me a part of your unbelievable day Johann and Ansie, I enjoyed every second of your wedding.
